IFO’s …..What are they?

Posted by dandare on October 5, 2012

What is an IFO; well it is a term that stands for Identified Flying Objects…. we refer to them, when we are able to identify an object in the sky.

I would like to quickly guide you through some of the many IFO’s in the sky, just to show that there is alot out there that is identified; this is important, as we must always keep this in mind, when looking at possible UFO’s…. for instance, live checks can be made on sateillites and where they are, if you know where to look ……

The Delta Project “Common IFO Phenomena” by Robert Moore;  gives a flavour of the IFO subject (Identified Flying Object).

There are many IFO’s out there:

1  Sateillites

For instance, the Naval Ocean Surveillance Sateillite.

” NOSS is a group of satellites that travel as a group of three in orbit around the Earth and sighting of this trio has given rise to many UFO reports in the UK” (extract from post). Also see here for more links to sateillites, with programmes to track them, ect.

For real time sateillite tracking see Heaven’s Above (recommended). Also for Hubble, Mir and others see here , here and here (real time tracking also).

Paul Maley’s site   (which is way out of date) shows just how much re-entered junk, falls back down to earth.

2  Space Junk

Alot of re-entry space junk, can be another possible IFO.

It has been the cause of quite a few ufo sightings; they are similar to bright fireball meteors, but have been known to be much more dramatic.

Only recently, space junk was the cause of sightings- in the UK.

sky news

BBC News

“On average, one non-functional spacecraft, launch vehicle orbital stage, or other piece of cataloged debris has fallen back to Earth every day for more than 40 years. The majority of these objects do not survive the intense reentry environment. For the minority which do survive in whole or in part, most fall harmlessly into the oceans or onto sparsely populated regions such as Siberia, the Australian Outback, or the Canadian Tundra. Occasionally, components of spacecraft and launch vehicles are found” (extract from NASA Debris Re-entry recovered ). However, this phenomena is becoming more common as the years pass.

Sources for this on the internet are Orbital Debris Quarterly news here , paul maley’s site “satellite ” website, with pictures of large re-entry debris here (still quite rare, especially at these sizes; thats a relief).

3    UFO Balloons

UFO balloons (or fire balloons) are a small balloon, heated by a flame below….. they are based on sky lanterns (invented by Chu Ko Liang), from China, which where traditionally made from a combination of bamboo frames and rice paper…. and used a rag dipped in paraffin, which was then lit, to get them airborne.

UFO balloons (i think commercialy started in 2005?) use a clear plastic bag (others use other material such as dry cleaner bags), and fitted below with a firelighter, held in place by wire; others have used balsa wood and drinking straws to make them, and a candle in place of the firelighter.

A ufo balloon being lit and put into the air can be seen here on you tube…..

These balloons need to be put into the mix, when researching and collaborating UFO sightings, to confirm that it is not these that have sparked off the reported sightings…. they do have some characteristics that can help in this though…. they have a whiteish-yellow glow, although in some weather conditions, these can be orangey red, and do not move quickly (unless in a strong wind-although this could create a fire risk) and always with the wind too, obviously.

They must be used in the right weather conditions, otherwise there is a real possibility that they can catch fire to the surrounding countryside, property, etc.

The ideal conditions to use them are on cool, clear non breezy evenings… they last for around 8 to 10 minutes (but sometimes slightly longer) and can rise as far as about 1000 metres; it can also move with airstream’s as it rises. Although i have heard of some that can last for far longer (up to 40 minutes they claim) using a candle framework to keep it alight for longer…. i’m sure there are other variations too.

Another thing is that they do not come out well on camera or video, but can be quite visual when seen real time.

So UFO followers must take this into account when considering reports of ufo’s, although there are many IFO’s out there (i will when time allows put a permanent page up, with as many references to IFO’s as i can).

This just gives you a flavour of what there is out in the skies……. hope this helps you when you see something in the sky…always ask- is it possibly an IFO.

Fireball over Texas – Feb 15th 2009..what was it?

Posted by dandare on February 17, 2009

texas-fireball-2-feb-15th-2009On feb 15th (Sunday morning) in Texas, there were sightings reported of a fireball coming down around Austin. Many believed, that what they had seen, was the result of a collision of the Russian (military) and American satellites on february 10th 2009; this being the resulting debris, coming back down to earth.

The latest update from News Channel 25 “ Fiery debris not from sateillite ” (first posted on the 15th, but seems to get regularly updated ) mentions

The U.S. Strategic Command now says there’s no relation between the collision of two satellites over Siberia last week and the weekend shower of fireballs over Texas……[.]….. An expert at NASA’s Meteoroid Environment Office says some of the only known footage of the debris, taken by a news photographer during the Austin marathon, looks just like a natural meteor hitting Earth’s atmosphere at about 12.5 miles per second ” (extracts from article).

At KOAA.com “ Mysterious fire balls fall from the sky ” (posted 16th feb 2009), it says

Numerous people across Texas reported seeing fireballs in the air Sunday morning. People in Richardson, Plano, Burleson and near Corsicana reported seeing the streaks in the skies ” (extract from article).

At Spaceweather.com it has on its main page, Fireball mania…

What you just saw was not satellite debris. The high speed of the fireball in the News 8 video is typical of a natural meteoroid hitting Earth’s atmosphere at tens of km/s. Orbital debris, on the other hand, should crawl across the sky at a fraction of that speed. Astronomer Bill Cooke of NASA’s Meteoroid Environment Office has reviewed the video and confirms “it’s a natural meteor, definitely.” According to his analysis, the source of the fireball was a meter-class asteroid traveling at about 20 km/s ” (extract from article).

What it also mentions was that on feb 13th, there was a fireball seen in both Central Kentucky, and Italy (being slightly earlier).

What do you believe it was? is it still a UFO (well so far it is, as its still unidentified), but possibly a meteorite?

I will update later with more reference links (i’m afraid, just not enough time to blog them now; thought it was important to send out the info however), and any new information if it materializes ……

UPDATE : 17th February 2009

The BBC has a short video on this here . It is the news 8 film from Austin (only 12 seconds)…. however, what is also interesting is the meteor streak over Sweden (link below this video).

texas-fireball-feb-20091

TIME (february 15th 2009) ” Is satellite debris falling on Texas ?

Chron.com (february 16th 2009) ” Texas fireball probably a meteor, not UFO ?

CNN.com (february 16th 2009) “ Texas report fireball in sky, sonic booms

Sonic booms and at least one fireball in the sky were reported in Texas on Sunday, less than a week after two satellites collided in space and a day after the Federal Aviation Administration asked U.S. pilots to watch for “falling space debris,” authorities said…[.]…Lisa Block, spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, said her agency had received calls from residents surprised by sonic booms about 11 a.m. She said calls came from an area from Dallas to Houston ” (extracts from article).

News 8 Austin ” Meteorite hunter suspects meteor landed near Waco ” (February 17th 2009)

texas-meteoritefeb09Taylor, a meteorite hunter, is trying to figure out what’s left of the truck sized space rock astronomers say caused the fireball seen over Austin Sunday morning ” (extract from article). The video to this can be seen here .

For questions about fireballs please go to this article from the American Meteorite Society; also the International Meteor Organisation here .

There is also a log from february 2009, at AMS Fireball sighting log, 2009 including the 15th.

UFO Update (33)

Posted by dandare on March 15, 2008

We start this update with a fun object…….

 bovineabductee.jpg    humanabductee.jpg   pulsatingbeam.jpg

“the Abduction Lamp” . It is still at the concept stage at the moment, but could have potential.

Following on from the pheonix lights article, i wrote about recently…. at azcentral.com it discusses “Retooled documentary takes look at Pheonix Lights” (posted 13th march,2008); Also, azfamily.com “still explaining Pheonix Lights 11 years later” (posted 13th march,2008).

At lovefm.com “Belmopan residents report sightings of UFOs” (posted 12th march,2008), in which “a few residents in the Belmopan area saw some bright lights over the hills in the direction of the University Heights area last night. We were told that the unidentified objects were bright fire ball like lights that came on and off for about 30 seconds at a time” (extract from article).

In the UK, the halifaxcourier.com seems to maintaining the bragging rights in “Unexplained light above Halifax helps make west yorkshire UFO hot spot” (posted 14th march,2008). The survey was done by Virgin media (in the virgin media files, under UFOs)…

ufo-430map.gif

For those not in the UK, this is owned by Richard Branson…….

I’m sure some other local newspaper, will be claiming its the UK UFO hotspot, before long though….

Staying in the UK, the lutontoday.co.uk mentions “Plenty more UFO sightings to report in Luton area” (posted 13th march,2008).

It mentions “Since last week’s article about mystery lights in the skies over Luton and Houghton Regis, this newsdesk has been inundated with readers sharing their own experiences.
From witnesses, sceptics and self-professed UFO fanatics, here is a selection of the responses….
” (extract from article).

In the Islingtongazette.co.uk (posted 11th march,2008) “MOD inquiry into Archway UFO mystery” , covers the sighting from a year ago, and what has happened since… It says

Now the Gazette can reveal that top level government agencies looked into the phenomenon – which many believe was nothing more than floating Chinese lanterns.
The Gazette sent a Freedom of Information request to the Ministry demanding to see every document relating to the Archway incident, as well as a total cost of the investigation
” (extract from article).

alienss.jpg

In turkey, at toplumpostasi.net “UFO” (posted 12th march,2008) it mentions

The sighting of a UFO this week has excited the Turkish media with pictures appearing in both tabloid style and more serious broadsheet papers this week. The flying object was spotted in the Karaköprü area of Şanlıurfa province towards 4am on Wednesday morning” (extract from article).

It goes on to mention a turkish ufo video (no link is given to it though, so i cannot comment on it)….. however, it does mention past ufo sightings in the country, which is of more interest.

Although the group siriusufo.org is talked about, but to me, it is not a reliable source of information on this topic. To be fair, the article is critical of sirius, saying that it is more interested in getting people to go to the ufo museum, than anything else. The article was done by Fazile Zahir…..

elpasotimes.com has “Police say object was blimp with lights” (posted 13th march,2008).

A supposed UFO spotted floating over Socorro on Wednesday night was a blimp with lights around it, a Socorro police dispatcher said” (extract from article).

alien-2.jpg

(not related to articles, although it looks more like me, on the night shift)

nugget.ca (north bay nugget) talks of “Fire balls likely meteors, astronomy researchers say” (posted 13th march,2008). It mentions “Dave Roscoe, president of the North Bay Astronomy Club, mused Monday the sightings may have been debris from a U.S. spy satellite shot down Feb. 20.

And he said Tuesday in an e-mail the website http://www.heavens-above.com is reporting it’s not unrealistic for such debris to re-enter the atmosphere three or four weeks after it broke up. Roscoe said the site also indicates this area passes through the path of re-entry once or twice a day.

Edwards, however, said debris would be moving at a much slower pace than fast-moving fire balls witnesses have described. And he said a meteor is a much more likely explanation” (extract from article).

In the new scientist “Swarm of meteorites may solve Peru impact mystery” (posted 12th march,2008)….. when it hit, there were claims it was a crashed alien craft by some…. not me, i hasten to add. dn13453-1_600.jpg

It is an interesting article, well worth a read.

Mysterious lights appear in WA sky” (posted 1oth march,2008), “THE mystery behind the lights which appeared over WA skies early this morning has been solved. The Perth Observatory says the lights were caused by a meteorite building up in the atmosphere” (extract from article). Looks more like its meteorite updates week….. than ufo updates.

Robbie Williams now,  “[...]…is planning to splash out £2.5 million on an alien observatory” (extract from article) from stuff.co.nz entitled “Robbie wants close encounter” (posted 15th march,2008).

mar1408-ufohouse.jpg

The Associated Press has, “House for sale: non-earthlings welcome” (posted 15th march,2008).

Also of interest:- “UFO book authors to present findings” (posted 10th march,2008).

Sorry for the lateness of this post…… This update covers selected news from the last update on the 27th september.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
We start with the launch of the sateillite Sputnik, which started the space age, on 4th october 1957 (50 years); there are many links to this interesting event into space. The BBC has an article called “Russia marks 50 years of sputnik“; it also has an interesting article on “the next 50 years of exploration” as well. The washington post has an article “What sputnik launched“; on the right side of the article a video can be viewed.

From IEEE spectrum, there is “Remembering Sputnik: Sir Arthur C. Clarke” and more at http://spectrum.ieee.org/sputnik .

On videos of sputnik there are a few here to look at….. At Reuters there is “Sputnik still surprises at 50“. on you tube (length of video 1 minute).

also with loads of information on sputnik

On the 5th october, the Times online wrote about “the 40 most memorable aliens“…for instance, the ewoks are number 32, and zaphod beetlebrox number 25. Each entry also has a link to a you tube video.

Following on in the same area, anyone for alien beer? should go here  .

PRAVDA.Ru, on the 3rd october, wrote about “Aliens forced Americans out from the moon” (actually on newsfromrussia.com).”One of Russia’s central television channels, RTR, has recently aired a documentary about US astronauts who allegedly came across extraterrestrial civilizations”, and later it mentions “It was alleged that NASA was afraid of conflicting with a highly developed civilization and immediately stopped the program. Does the film sound believable?” (extract from article above).
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Livinginperu.com, mentioned that (posted 3rd october,2007), “meteorite crater guarded by Peru’s Police after U.S. citizens attempt to traffic it“. The next day, on the same site, “U.S. collector admits he bought Meteorite Fragments in Peru“.

The meteorite trail hits the news again, from the Herald Sun (http://www.news.com/ posted 3rd october,2007). Entitled “Flood of UFO calls after meteor“, it mentions their phones were ringing after ufo sightings were seen in Melbourne, Australia. It was confirmed that it was a meteorite burning up in the atmosphere.

At Fox 9 news, It was reported that “Mysterious object falls from minnesota sky” (posted 3rd october,2007) and a later addition/update here on the 6th october.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
At theargus.co.uk, (posted 9th october,2007), there is the “Ufo riddle over Uckfield“, in which a large amount of red lights have triggered of the latest sightings…..Something of a rather different nature can be found on the Meadville Tribune, in which building 9 processed magnesium waste, alot of which they are now unsure what it is…. “Unidentified Chemicals perplex EPA” (posted 10th october,2007).
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
More UK sightings (posted 9th october) “Buckhurst hill : Mystery over ufo sighting“ …the event took place on the 5th october.

Lastly, Xconomy mentions “A visit to Boston’s own Robot-plane skunk works” (posted 10th october,2007), and talks about “…. unpiloted machines such as a UFO-shaped surveillance craft that can take off and land vertically, a fold-up airplane designed to fly over the plains of Mars, and a makeshift glider that uses bat-like echolocation to avoid obstacles. Aurora engineers fly the smallest models around the indoor mini-hangar and truck larger prototypes out to nearby airfields such as Hanscom Air Force Base” (extract from article). Interesting stuff.

UFO Update

Posted by dandare on September 27, 2007

As i’ll be away from this friday until late sunday evening, the update is coming out slightly earlier this week. If there is anything you would like to have included on the weekly update, or if there is anything you would like covered in general, please contact me at dandare868-ufonews@yahoo.co.uk , and i’ll see what i can do.

With the latest intriguing event, that of the peru fireball, National Geographic have written an article entitled “Meteor crash in Peru caused Mysterious illness” (posted 21st September,2007). They say that local Peruvian scientists, have analysed it, and it is of a rare meteor type.

“Numerous arsenic deposits have been found in the subsoils of southern Peru, explained Modesto Montoya, a nuclear physicist who collaborated with the team. The naturally formed deposits contaminate local drinking water.” (quote from article above).

This they think, could have created the conditions (with the impact of the meteor) in the illnesses that later resulted.

In the American Chronicle, Frank Warren has written an article on “Officials in Peru State That The Fallen UFO is a Chondrite Meteor“. It goes into quite alot of detail and covers all areas, even with links and updates to the article, to include other sources; it also proves that alot of conflicted reporting and speculation has taken place, and quite evidently, some of it is not true.

Unfortunately i missed the anniversary of  the Majestic 12 on september 24th ; here is an article by wired entitled “Sept. 24, 1947: MJ-12 — We Are Not Alone … Or Are We?”.

It mentions “1947: If the secret committee known as the Majestic 12 ever really existed, this is the day that the group was allegedly created by a memorandum from President Harry Truman” (extract from wired article).

There in lies the problem, did it ever exist? I do not know if they are real or not? there is a link to tests made (article in PRweb here ), however, i find problems with Michael S. Heiser, who also has other hidden agenda’s…but i’ll leave it up to you to decide.

From the article “A total of 17 documents were tested, allegedly written by nine different authors. Dr. Heiser typed the prose text of the disputed Majestic Documents and a set of undisputed control documents for each author for Dr. Chaski’s testing. Of the 17 documents tested, only one can be scientifically validated as having been written by the author who is named……[.].”  OymyNews.com also has an article on this “The Majestic Hall of Mirrors “.

It is claimed that “Parallel universes exist – study” (source breitbart.com, september 23rd, 2007). They mention that “Parallel universes really do exist, according to a mathematical discovery by Oxford scientists described by one expert as “one of the most important developments in the history of science” (extract from article).

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket<-South africa,1956.

An article “UFOs kept secret by U.S. in nationalist fervor?” caught my eye, (in The Register-Herald, posted september 8th,2007). Most of the article is about Stanton friedman, who was “A physicist who once worked for such giants as Westinghouse and General Electric, he has devoted much of his adult life to ferreting out clues in the UFO controversy.” (extract from article).

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

In English Pravda.ru there is “KGB’s secret UFO files finally made public” which is an old source, but one i was not aware of until now (posted december 12th,2005). It mentions the declassification of the Blue Folder…“Researchers believe the Blue Folder is an invaluable source of information” (extract from article).

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

In recent news, KodiakDailyMirror.com  (posted 26th september,2007) reports that “UFO mystifies local officials Aircraft accounted for, no craters found during search“. breitbart.com (posted 24th september,2007) says that “NASA aims to put man on Mars by 2037 ” ….i’m surprised not sooner….unless you believe that they have not landed on the moon? (although for the record, i do believe they have landed).

Finally, to my old favourite chinese lanterns/ufo balloons….. in newburytoday.co.uk (posted 26th september,2007), it mentions “Newburytoday.co.uk investigates possible explanation for string of UFO sightings above district“. It goes into some detail about the sightings in their area (involving orange lights, and so on), with a video, in which they use a ufo balloon, to demonstrate the effects that it has at night……

Meteorite hits Peru (IFO)

Posted by dandare on September 18, 2007

On Peru’s border with Bolivia, a meteorite created a large crater……  In “villagers fall ill after fireball hits Peru” – posted september 18th,2007 - source: msnbc.msn.com). In the msnbc article, there is available a video from the crater site.

Other sites of interest on this topic:

Although it does not show the present crater in Peru, Google earth hacks (seen here), shows us images of craters from around the world.

Also an article on what to do if you find a meteorite can be seen here .

Update: september 19th, 2007

Ok i might have overstepped the mark here……  on quick analysis of the sands around the impact of the crater, it is suggested it could be a meteorite…..experts are now being sent to investigate and start thorough tests to comfirm exactly what it is. Please see Reuters “Peruvians get sick from apparant Meteorite crater” (posted september 19th).For reuters video on this  see here (confusingly in the video they refer to it as a meteorite).

However, The Guardian (www.guardian.co.uk  -posted september 18th 2007) seems to believe it to be a meteorite, in “Peru meteorite crash causes mystery illness“.

So maybe not an IFO after-all.

UPDATE 21st September, 2007

Apparently, yahoo news (written by AP writer -20th sept, 2007) mentions that “Meteorite likely caused crater in peru“.  Such impacts are rare, and astronomists still want to do other tests to confirm the strike“.

Other reports are more excentric, such as the claim than american spy sateillite was downed in peru (see link here)… It does not warrant a serious comment however (its very politically bias led, to meet its own end- anti west and USA).
