Recent UK ufo sightings in 2008…. a reality check please!

Posted by dandare on July 4, 2008

In case you might not be aware, the Uk has been inundated with UFO sightings for a while now; the start of the year seemed to be normal, with a standard amount of reported UFO sightings in the media, and online.

So it seems the catalyse came on May 14th, when the MOD released 8 ufo files (each one a pdf file, consisting of many sightings); they are still available for download from the National archives website (please see the national archives for the files you can download) however, now a small fee is charged. These cover the years 1978-1987….. thanks must go to David Clarke, Joe Mc Gonagle and Gary Anthony for actively pursuing the right for all of us to see these files. There will be more files to follow.

The media covered this, with some half decent reporting, to rather dubious reporting ..below is only a very small sample of the reports/articles written (so there was large media interest:

the BBC “Files released on UFO sightings” it mentions

They include accounts of strange lights in the sky and unexplained objects being spotted by the public, armed forces and police officers” and “Much of the previously classified paperwork is made up of correspondence from the public sent to government officials, such as the MoD and then-prime minister Margaret Thatcher” (extracts from article).

BBC “In pictures: The UFO files”

The today programme “UFO sightingsfiles released” … with media player (audio) 4 mins.

BBC News “Dear MOD: where is ET?” written by Dr. David Clarke…. it mentions:

For decades the Ministry of Defence kept what it knew about UFOs locked away in its archives. Now, the contents of what have been called Britain’s X-Files are finally being revealed. One of the UK’s leading UFO experts told Radio 4′s Today programme about his hunt.

The first eight of 160 MoD UFO files have been opened at the National Archives, thanks to the Freedom of Information Act” (extract from article).

Daily Telegraph “British government releases UFO files” including video (1min 53secs). it mentions:

The most comprehensive Government files on UFO activity are opened to the public for the first time today and they disclose that even air traffic controllers and police officers have seen mysterious craft in the skies over Britain” (extract from article).

Timesonline “HM Government has never been approached by people from outer space

Yet the files do show that the MoD conducted a rigorous investigation of every alleged sighting of a UFO until well into the 1980s. In a briefing note in 1979 the MoD wrote: “Her Majesty’s Government has never been approached by people from outer space.” But the Defence Intelligence Staff was given the task of following up sightings, interviewing witnesses, collating information and filing reports” (extract from article).

blogs.guardian.co.uk “Explore the X-files” it mentions:

Several sightings in the files are from police. At quarter past midnight on Christmas Day 1985, a group of 3 police officers in Woking were surprised by a white light descending on the Horsell area. The officers were apparently worried their report would not be taken seriously because Horsell Common features in HG Wells’ War of the Worlds as the place where the first Martians land” (extract from article).

news distribution service (NDS) “Ministry of Defence release X-files

Reuters “Green aliens, ufos said to visit

Aliens from outer space have been visiting Britain for years and UFO sightings doubled after the film Close Encounters was released in 1977, according to secret files collating reports by members of the public.

The alien craft come in all shapes, sizes and colors but their occupants are uniformly green, the Ministry of Defence files show” (extract from article).

The Guardian “The truth is out there: National Archives lifts lid on UFO files

The files consist of a variety of documents, including numerous individual sightings, accounts of investigations and briefings prepared by MoD staff for ministers on the subject. “There are a lot of conspiracy theories that have grown up about the military interest in UFOs. What we are getting to see in these papers are the actual facts,” said Dr David Clarke, a lecturer in journalism at Sheffield Hallam University, in a podcast prepared for the National Archives on the release” (extract from article). Included is a podcast at the bottom of the article.

The Independant “The truth really is out there as Britain’s X-files released”

What i liked, was this mentioned near the end “It will show that in April 1984 police in Edgware, north London, were called to investigate a light flashing “blue, white, green and pink”, followed by a “blinding white ball with a tail”. Women ran to their homes, screaming, with one declaring to officers: “I am not a nutter”” (extract from article).

news.scotsman.com “Truth is out there as government releases ufo files”

ACCOUNTS of bright lights in the sky and even alien abduction have been made public for the first time in a batch of “X Files” released by the Ministry of Defence.

Defence chiefs have kept files on 11,000 sightings dating back to the 1950s.Briefing documents for government ministers facing questions about policy on unidentified flying objects also form part of the release at the National Archives in Kew.Defence intelligence staff were more interested in checking that UFOs were not, in fact, signs of earthly covert spying missions by other countries, the documents reveal” (extract from article).

The sun “Brit ufo fever is flying sky high“… wins my reward for the most stupid ufo alleged photo!!!

*** MSN uk news “Britain’s X-files opened to the public” near the end it says

“”It’s a question of who you going to believe: your lying eyes or the government?” once remarked John Callahan, a former Federal Aviation Administration investigator, who said the CIA tried to hush-up the sighting of a huge illuminated ball four times the size of a jumbo jet in Alaska in 1987. You’ll forgive me if I have more faith in my 20/20 vision than I do in any elected representative” (extract from article).

*** news.uk msn (from ITN) “Britain’s X-files made public”

*** news24.com “Britons spotted UFOs

But enthusiasts hoping for evidence that aliens were attempting to land in Britain will be disappointed” (extract from article).

*** M & C “Is there anything out there?”

They used to be stamped ‘Secret: For British Eyes Only’ – but on Wednesday files about the sighting of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) in the skies over Britain were made public for the first time” (extract from article).

*** commentisfree.guardian.co.uk      “ET alors?”

*** RINF.COM “MOD begins full UFO-files public release

Many of the MoD’s UFO files – including, probably, most of the good stuff – have already been revealed under Freedom of Information Act requests. In particular, the splendid conspiracy fodder surrounding the Rendlesham Forest incident of 1980 (“Britain’s Roswell”) has long been available, full of mysterious lights, strange marks left in the ground and traces of radiation. Even better, the cameras recording the British air-defence radar picture were switched off at the time, indicating an almost certain government conspiracy” (extract from article).

*** Time.com “Britain releases its X-files

*** this is dorset “Close encounters” a short article. Also a video link to regional (past UFO ) encounters? here .

*** this is local London “Croydon UFO sighting included in X-files

The Sanderstead resident recalled peeping out of her bedroom window at 3am, in June 1983, and seeing a large rectangular-shaped object passing slowly.

“There seemed to be no means of propulsion. The object was not being pushed, pulled, lifted or carried – its movement was silent,” she reported. She drew a picture of what she had seen and it appears in one of the eight files of reports released yesterday by the National Archives in Kew” (extract from article).

So obviously, this was now in the public eye, and alerted certain media, to the possible attraction of this type of news during silly season (thats around june – august, as there is usually not a load of news to report on).

So, reports started increasing, after the UFO files were released by the MOD, but what gained world attention again, was the article by tabloid newspaper “the Sun” (a dubious paper at best for actual facts, in all regards). The article was “Cops chase a UFO over Cardiff”

“The incident happened as the helicopter was returning to the MoD’s St Athan base near Cardiff, where it is stationed. The chopper was at 500ft and waiting to land when the crew saw the UFO speeding towards them from below.

A source said: “It closed in at great speed, aiming straight at the helicopter, “The chopper had to swerve sharply to avoid being hit. The guys said if they’d stayed where they were, they’d be dead – it would’ve been a direct hit.

“They are convinced it was a UFO. It sounds far-fetched, but they know what they saw” (extract from article). The incident took place on the 7th june 2008 it was reported by the sun.

However, it seems that the date of the incident is not clear cut (either the 7th or 8th june), and there seems to be two versions to the sighting…. that was soon relayed to the other tabloid papers, then the other major streamline papers, and soon it hit the world media, who clamoured for information.

There is a basis of truth in this incident, but how much has been added, is the question.

The official response was “unidentified aircraft” which is interesting… although this could also be not telling us a hell of a lot.

drawing by “the Sun” below

I also disagree with Nick (gullable)Pope, how do we know that the helicopter had a near miss with a UFO….this is from the sun newspaper (no source available) who have papers to sell in the silly season (and not interested in facts). I’m not dismissing it totally (but i find the whole thing unlikely at best), just that this might take on a totally new identity (oops it already has).

All types of both local and national newspapers, started reporting about recent sightings (and it seemed like open season-as it were), but quite a few are quite obviously IFO (Identified Flying Objects); the majority being ufo balloons/lanterns…. and trying to find the legitimate incidents from the rest is proving differcult.

This is a  big shame….I did see some articles, for instance of the Liverpool lights incident, recently, and that it was an “invasion”…. as i live not too far away from the city, most people are completely unaware of this invasion. It was a complete fabrication, and nowhere near reality.

What is an even bigger shame is that “The Sun” seem to think they are now experts on the subject, and have their own dedicated page to UFO’s….. personally, i wish they would leave the UFO subject well alone…

I will dwell on this some more, at a later date, but felt i had to mention something, about the recent spike in UFO sightings in the UK.

What effect will this have on Ufology when it all dies down? i do not know? I am not blaiming the public though, as i genuinely believe alot are reporting sightings, that they really want an answer too (although you are also inevitably going to get your fair share of hoaxes). Some ufologists seem to also like to jump on the bandwagon, and hype up the situation…. this to is not a great help.

What we should be looking for is the facts…. but they too might be illusive….

Uk UFO sightings – june 2008 (updated regularly)

Posted by dandare on June 29, 2008

i will try and keep this up to date, with all information from the UK.

Please check back from time to time, as this will be updated regularly…

If you see something that i have missed, please contact me (thanks).

I have also put the posts, in date order, the same format as last month … I will try and put a conclusion to the sightings at the end of each month as well …… (although i need to do this from april onwards..oops!).

There has been an explosion of  UK UFO activity, after the MOD released its UFO archive, and this might account for the media clamouring for our attention (how much of it is fact, is frankly anyone’s guess),  and also the public looking at the sky more than normal…. and wanting explanations also.

Some incidents could be UFO balloons (please see:  http://dandare.wordpress.com/2007/05/19/ufo-balloons-what-are-they/ for more details, froma previous article).

However, as i have said before, i am not sure what value they are to any UFO research.

Many of the sightings are sensationalised, with usually alot of information missing. Please keep this in mind as you view these postings from the local and national press.

I’m afraid many also fail to follow up on their initial leads, and many reports just remain forgotten.

He filmed them on his mobile phone and reported the close encounter to Army top brass.

Ministry of Defence experts were studying his report and video yesterday — after ordering Mark and his pals NOT to say anything else about the incident.
The sighting, at Tern Hill barracks near Market Drayton, Shrops, came two hours before helicopter police officers reported an encounter with a huge craft 80 miles away near Cardiff.

And three hours before a couple claimed they were followed by a strange light in the sky along the A5 near Shrewsbury.

They then began fading and disappeared. Shortly after the couple saw a plane flying away from the exact area the objects had been in and they believe it could have been sent to investigate.

The paranormal buff said it could well have been chinese lanterns, which he says have seen an increase in reported false UFO sightings in the UK. He also suggested the flaming orange appearance of the objects might point toward a flare being released by local fisherman” (extracts from article).

The UFO sightings earlier this month included one made by a police helicopter crew in Wales, prompting at least the Sun tabloid to announce Wednesday that an “Alien Army” was gathering above the seemingly tranquil British countryside”.

It later went on to say “Some UFO experts are not convinced there is anything unusual going on, especially in light of a new craze that has spread to England — the practice of releasing lit Chinese lanterns into the night sky to celebrate weddings and other special events.

It turns out that two newlyweds who had purchased 100 lanterns to celebrate their wedding had released them into the sky shortly before the purported UFO sighting in Wales, offering a logical explanation for the lights seen in the sky” (extracts from article). mmm… definately some good points to ponder on there… of course, it is not only chinese lanterns that are in the night sky though.

The Independant “The papers would blush but anything goes on their websites

“Pete Picton, editor of The Sun Online, says that when US website The Drudge Report picked up its UFO front page story on Wednesday, its site saw a 169 per cent rise in traffic. The Telegraph also knows the game.

“I think it is a reality that the Mail and others, including ourselves included, get a lot of traffic from Drudge, Digg and Fark,” says Ed Roussel, the Telegraph’s digital editor”…..[.]….”The Telegraph, too, is not ashamed of using celebrity content or quirkies, another favourite of the big blogs, to drive traffic” (extracts from article).

This shows another force, that is sometimes driving these stories upon us (ie in silly season, when news stories are slightly harder to come by, a sensational headline gains quick popularity)….. this is an important point to keep in mind….alot of the time the papers do not want the facts, they see it as fun, to place all those cliches on articles/posts.

The Independant “UFO Alert! Aliens everywhere” this however suggests that  “If you still live with your parents, wear a zip-up cardigan over your collar and tie, have enamel badges in your lapel and don’t get out much because you’re too busy curating your collection of Star Trek memorabilia, it has been quite a week” (extract from article).

Well no to all the above, thanks (that does not apply to me and probably quite a few ufologists/researchers)! they do have some valid points, but it is the papers that have made this into more than it possibly is….. or made it tacky, or both. I would be quite happy to just have the raw facts….. but hell that does not go with the media agenda (ok rant over).

For the rest of us mortal souls, it starts to get harder, to try and find out, which are the ones worth looking into…. the reports are numerous, and increasing by the day.

Will soon catch up to date with sightings this month….

ArdrossanHerald has an update to that of the 1st may…. called funnily enough “UFO Latest“:

in the short article, it mentions that they have checked with other sources to try to find out if it can be explained any other way …. It claims other eye witnesses took photos using camers phones (although quality i assume might be a problem). It also says that this news has filtered over to America….. it says there will be an exclusive on this on the 7th (of yet there is nothing…time of writing 7th may)…

The MOD release 8 ufo files (each one a pdf file, consisting of many sightings); they are available for download from the National archives website, for the next month, for free. please see the national archives for the files you can download.

These cover the years 1978-1987….. thanks must go to David Clarke, Joe Mc Gonagle and Gary Anthony for actively pursuing the right for all of us to see these files. :)

There will be more files to follow and i will update ASAP, when they are available. For a deeper understanding of these files please see  DI55 document by uk-ufo.org   (especially on how MOD is structured).

I now include national, international and local news articles on the MOD opening up its files….. it is interesting to see how they all respond to the news… some are predictable (and poor) others inaccurate, and uninterested, but a few are more insiteful. (those articles that were not written on the 14th but relate to this, will have  *** in front for easy reference).

the BBC has quite a few articles: how useful they are, i will leave for you to decide.

But, if you are willing to peruse the 450 pages of files, there are some genuinely compelling cases. Many reports come from pilots, air traffic controllers and the police. One report by police officers in Woking, Surrey, describes a white light descending to Earth. There testimony is marked: “Genuine report.” And there are plenty more where that came from. Although eight files have been released now, another 150 are on their way over the next few years, according to the MoD“. and…..

Judging by the public interest in the release of the files, plenty of people will have a look at them. Even the fact that the MoD kept such records has interested many. As you can see, there is large scale interest in this by the media, and i’m sure there are more links to other newspaper, media coverage…

I’m sorry this is a brief account of what is important news from the MOD…. i am still short on time, but hope to resume blogging as soon as i can…. so sorry in advance.

I will, when i get back to a normal service, go in depth about this, and analyse and so on.

Also all sources/articles will be placed on my UK ufo sightings posting for may…. i’m afraid i have not done so yet.

I felt it was better to have a quick page, to alert anyone who does not know that this is available.

Sorry for gap in the post, i cannot seem to correct the problem…..

Uk UFO sightings (march 2008)

Posted by dandare on March 16, 2008

276px-uk-map.pngI am following the Uk ufo sightings every month….. however, as i have said before, i am not sure what value they are to any UFO research.

Many of the sightings are sensationalised, with usually alot of information missing. Please keep this in mind as you view these postings from the local press. I will try to add updates (mainly just links to articles) at the end of this article for this month, as and when they arrive.

I will be adding information about MOD links, near the end of this article as well.

Many local newspapers, are more interested in being ‘the UK hot spot’ of the year/moment,ect than anything else.

In halifaxcourier.co.uk, (posted 15th march,2008) “County is UFO hotspot“…. this was done by Virgin media with ufo data back to 1994 (study researched by Nick Pope- i would like to know where he pulled the data from; this is not added).

Therefore west yorkshire boasts, that it is the UK UFO hotspot, and i am assuming Nick Pope took data from the MOD ufo files that are readily available online; the telegraphandargus.co.uk (this is for bradford area) reaffirms this fact in “Keep your eyes to the skies” (posted 15th march,2008). However, this article claims that there were sightings in this area ….34 in the last 40 years (so 1994 as the last article suggested, is not right), and many above Bradford, apparently according to this article. From the virgin media site here , it mentions the data goes as far back as 1961.

In the dailyrecord.co.uk (scottish news) it boasts that “Lanarkshire is Scotlands UFO capital” (posted 15th march,2008). I think you can see the aims of all these articles…. again it is for the same virgin media study.

Lancashire, who probably feel a bit soar at coming third, with Yorkshire on the top of this list, still write in the lep.co.uk (lancashire news) “Lancashire is hot-spot for flying saucers” (posted 16th march,2008). At least it admits its motives, as it mentions that Nick Pope recommends Lancashire as a place to visit to possibly see ufos (or as they say”to spot a little green man”).

alienss.jpg

So are we talking bragging rights, extra tourism, and so on…. possibly; maybe, its also to sell some more papers. Also, what i find frustrating is where the data comes from…does it just come from one source, the MOD, and if so, should it also include other data; also, should there be more than one researcher on this, collorating the results?

In the granthamjournal.co.uk “Gonerby UFO sighted over Saskatchewan” (posted 13th march,2008). There is a basic drawing of the UFO, and the Gonerby sightings draws (no pun intended) parallels with a Canadian sighting at Saskatchewan, which was seen in 2005. For interest, you can also see previos UFO sightings reported by this paper here.

The same paper also has “Reader tries to pass off fake UFO picture”  (5th march,2008).

In the bedfordtoday.co.uk there are two articles in the month of march “Mysterious goings-on in luton skies leave onlookers baffled” (posted 6th march,2008) and “plenty more UFO sightings to report in Luton area” (posted 13th march,2008). The first one is  standard faire (for the local papers), and the second is a extraterrestrial versus skeptical counter argument article. For previous ufo sightings that the paper has done, see here .

In the Islingtongazette.co.uk (posted 11th march,2008) “MOD inquiry into Archway UFO mystery” , covers the sighting from a year ago, and what has happened since… It says

Now the Gazette can reveal that top level government agencies looked into the phenomenon – which many believe was nothing more than floating Chinese lanterns.
The Gazette sent a Freedom of Information request to the Ministry demanding to see every document relating to the Archway incident, as well as a total cost of the investigation
” (extract from article).

For just a daft, alleged alien encounter see “The moment when aliens decided to land in enfield” Posted 4th march,2008 by enfieldindependant.co.uk).

For another just daft article, “Alien doctors treated my cystitis” (posted 7th march,2008), by hartlepoolmail.co.uk. I’m soo going to believe this…and the woman being interviewed is writing a book about it to boot. ………………………..next please.

I’m afraid many also fail to follow up on their initial leads, and many reports just remain forgotten.

ufo-online3.jpg

The MOD will soon (similar to the french)  release more UFO files for public viewing, from this spring onwards; please see my previous post for more details at     http://dandare.wordpress.com/2007/12/23/mod-to-start-releasing-ufo-files-spring-2008/ (please bare in mind that some of the links to the MOD are not working, due to them moving and adding to them, and therefore moving the links).

I have added some below for you to see…. contrary to what you may have been led to believe by the media, there is already quite a bit out online. This is just a taster of what you can see for yourself from the MOD site.

Requests for information about UFOs recieved in january 2005

Also UFO search results on the site here

UFO reports 1997-2007

UAP in the UK region

Please also take a look at http://www.uk-ufo.org/condign/index.htm which has an invaluable resource on the MOD, especially on what is coming out this spring……especially the link http://www.uk-ufo.org/condign/di55docs.html

MORE UPDATES WILL BE REPORTED BELOW HERE  (just as links to the sites involved, unless really interesting).

UPDATE : 17th March,2008

Shropshirestar.com has “Shropshire hotspot for UFO sightings” (posted 17th march,2008) with an interactive map included. (for same virgin media poll).

thisisplymouth.co.uk “City is tops for UFO sightings” (posted 17th march,2008). slightly misleading there i feel; and yes for same poll.

Oops… almost missed this article from the bbc.co.uk (scotland/tayside and central) “MOD releases secret files on UFOs” (posted 4th march,2008).

Louthleader.co.uk has an interesting article on “More earthquake light sightings” (posted 11th march,2008).

A follow up article (from the same paper)  “International interest for leader lightning story” (posted 17th march,2008). also has some good links to other articles on the same lines, including the timesonline ….. worth taking a note of this phenomena, as it is still relatively unknown (includes lightning reations and ball lightning). Could this account for some UFO sightings?

 UPDATE: 18th march,2008

Buryfreepress.co.uk, has “Bury named UFO ‘hot spot’ ” (posted 18th march,2008)… similar faire for virgin media poll.

Also (for same poll) eadt.co.uk- suffolk and essex online has “Suffolk ranks highly for UFO sightings” (posted 18th march,2008).

thisislincolnshire.co.uk has a further article on the earthquake lights “Did UFO lights herald lincolnshire earthquake?” (posted 18th march,2008). Is there something in this… i think there possibly could be.

UPDATE 19th march:

The granthamjournal.co.uk has “UFO could be top secret plane” (posted 19th march,2008); this is linked to, and a follow-on post to    “Gonerby UFO sighted over Saskatchewan” (posted 13th march,2008)- which was added above.

In metro.co.uk it mentions “Proof that aliens are out there” (posted 17th march,2008-almost missed this article). Again it is proof that, not all you see on google earth, is actually what you see (if you know what i mean).

ufo-online3.jpg

Birminghammail.net has “Birmingham named ‘weirdest place’ ” (posted 14th march,2008-again almost missed).. this also includes UFOs.

UPDATE: 21st march,2008

At virginmedia.com, they pick up on the earthlights phenomena “Expert probes earthquake lights” (no date shown, but posted within the last 2 days).

The sunderlandecho.com mentions the virgin poll again (the same as those above) in “You’re not alone in County Durham” (posted 20th march,2008).

Falkirkherald.co.uk mentions “Bonnybridge UFO claim” (posted 20th march,2008) ; the witness said “By the shape of it there was no way it was a plane. It looked oval shaped with flashing lights all around it, so we got out the van to have a look.
“After hovering for a while, it then just shot up into the sky and the speed it was going was phenomenal
” (extract from article).

sasclothbadge.jpg

thisislancashire.co.uk (again on the virgin poll) has “Lancashire and the UFOs” (posted 21st march,2008).

UPDATE 25th:

yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk has a very small mention of the UFO virgin poll (4 lines), in “A barmy way to save cash” (posted 22nd march,2008)…however the rest of the article is about something completely different.

** From theargus.co.uk… one of the worst ufo sightings video Ever in “UFO caught on camera in Sussex” (posted 23rd march, 2008). The video is well, at best hillarious!

bakewelltoday.co.uk has “UFO sighting in Peak District Village” (posted 21st march,2008…sorry only recently found). It mentions “Sightings of orange lights over Litton have left residents baffled.
Ray Frost, who reported his February 24 sighting on the internet, said: “I think it was a UFO
” (extract from article).

alien-2.jpg

kentonline.co.uk , in (i think) “welcome to kent” (posted 21st march,2008), there are a whole series of different short topics discussed…. what we are after is “STRANGE happenings from crabs falling from the sky to UFOs have earned the county a place in the top 10 of the UK’s Twilight Zone Hotspots, according to Disneyland Resort Paris” (extract from article). Nothing more is added.

The eveningtimes.co.uk has that Virgin UFO poll in “Glasgows UFO Fan Club” (posted 24th march,2008)… It says “Believe it or not, Glasgow has been named the UFO capital of Scotland.

The city has stolen the title from Bonnybridge, which for decades has been abuzz with reported sightings of alien spacecraft.

Glasgow is the only location in Scotland to make the Virgin Media Files, a specially compiled list of Britain’s top 10 places for spotting UFOs” (extract from article). and….”Glasgow’s tourism and civic leaders welcomed the news that inter-galactic tourists are seemingly flocking to the city” (extract from article).
UPDATE: 27th march, 2008

From the northantset.co.uk, there are 2 short posts “UFO spotted over Corby” (26th march, 2008)….. mmmm.

And “Latest UFO news in from India” (27th march, 2008)…..i think this short post is summed up most aptly by the only person to comment….

That’s actually an IFO. It is a male Danaid_Eggfly. See photo here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danaid_Eggfly

Come on folks. Stop wasting our time with reflections, bugs, and other fake ufos. If you have something truly extraordinary then show it. Please don’t make it difficult for serious UFO researchers“. Couldn’t have said it better.

clipart_scifi_spaceships_003.gif

wigantoday.net has “UFO spotted in Wigan” (27th march, 2008) amd also has a video from cell phone… to be honest could be anything? (also earlier post i noticed…virgin poll again…”We’re a UFO hotspot“-20th march, 2008 ).

From the granthamjournal.co.uk (27th march, 2008) it has “More UFO theories“; it states near the end “He said: “You dont want to see a space craft!. It’s just not worth the many lonely nights of siliently weeping and wondering to myself BECAUSE the goverment won’t confirm what I know to be true

“I CAN’T TAKE THE LIES ANYMORE“” (extract from article).

Rest assured, i am not lonely, crying, ect just more determined to find the truth (although some quite clearly think i’m nuts/a kook, ect……oh well things are looking up).

Huge rise in British UFO sightings in 2007… maybe not?

Posted by dandare on February 9, 2008

Photobucket

According to several media outlets, there is a large surge in British ufo phenomena. In the telegragh.co.uk  it states that there is a “huge rise in British UFO sightings” (posted 8th February,2008).

It mentions “Clusters of up to 100 mysterious objects, bright white lights and strange, triangular shaped objects are just some of a huge surge in UFO sightings reported to the Ministry of Defence last year” (extract from article).

Unfortunately (and sorry to say this) i am unimpressed… yes the British have had some good sightings, but quite a few have been chinese lanterns/IFOs.

Also it states two things, which i seem to remember, it has repeated before about the MOD (apart from calling it the X files, yuck).

Firstly, that the MOD have for the first time, archived sightings running back to 1998 (wrong- its been ‘out there’ for a quite a while); secondly, i do not consider a huge rise in ufo sightings, from 97 in 2006 to 135 in 2007. Do you?

Luckily, it does go on to say, that alot of the sightings can be explained- phew. But the big media papers in Britain seem to be saying the same things, year on year.

Photobucket

Others have also followed with this story; the independant “Uk sightings on the rise” (posted 8th february,2008). Luckily this article, says it is on the rise…. this article is shorter, but slightly better written.Of course, the sun had to get in the act as well with “Uk sightings in Britain rocket” (posted 8th february,2008). It starts off reasonably well, for the sun (although the heading of course is way off the mark) but soon nose dives…. still insisting that the Falmouth object is a UFO, when it is clearly a seagull (please try to ignore the photos as well); the only saving grace, was that the article was short.

The thaindian.com (repeats  similar article to the rest) but now its “absolutely enormous rise in ufo sightings in the UK” (posted 8th february,2008).

I’m sorry to sound negative, but the mainstream media seem to like to repeat the same old garbage, again and again, with no regard to the subject at all (there are occassional exceptions however). We’ll be back to little green men, again soon?

As the MOD are about to release “the ‘X’ files” this spring, i dread to think what the headings and titles from some of these papers will be …….any guesses?  how about “X-files are XXX rated”.

Am i over re-acting? are these articles actually telling us anything at all? Do i hate The sun?

Ufo Update

Posted by dandare on January 13, 2008

Welcome to this weeks Update..

ufos

The first article to catch my eye (not sure what the other one was doing) was “UFO allegedly splashed down in Kazakhstan ” (posted 8th january 2008). The event was on the 5th january 2008, and the witness was from the local police, who saw “a shining flying object falling into the river” (extract from article). Divers searched the area, but found nothing.

This is old news, but i thought i’d just sneek it in here, “Father of sci-fi rekindles alien debate” (december 17th,2007; ABC news).

We are back to the headlines of the green men variety again; “At last, the truth about little green men ” (posted 7th january 2008; telegragh.co.uk ). It mentions that we might learn much about what really happened over the Rendlesham Forest incident…. but as i have said before, this is already out and available on the MOD site for all to see. See Here for the MOD files. There is also a suffolk police file available here .

BlueRidgeNow.com (posted 11th january 2008) states “Include me with UFO believers“.

In shieldsgazette.com (posted 9th january 2008) another mature article can be read at “why is Sunderland a UFO hotspot“…. as far as i was concerned, i didn’t know it was? It covers the same old “stuff” on ufos..sorry unimpressed.

Photobucket

Wired.com covers “Lake Erie UFOs are Stars on You Tube” (posted 11th january 2008); it mentions “Waves of UFO sightings over the waters of Lake Erie are earning the great lake a reputation as a UFO hot spot. But the lake’s new popularity may have more to do with a string of popular videos on YouTube than sightings of little green men” (extract from article). A telling comment, at the end of this article, which is true of alot of sightings says:

“”The problem is anyone can post anything and call it a UFO, a ghost, but there’s no filter,” he says. “You don’t know if that person has a history of hoaxes or mental illness. What happens is a real case is drowned out by a sea of hoaxes, mistakes or misidentifications”” (extract from article). I’m afraid to some extent that is true, although alot of witnesses generally believe, what they see is a UFO, but with a little investigation, this ufo (quite alot of the time) changes into an IFO.

The heraldtribune.com has an interesting article entitled “The Limits of Liberalism?” (posted 11th january,2008); it also has a good article “Everything old is old again” (posted 10th january,2008), in which it talks about the MOD releasing ufo files… It basically is saying that journalists fail to realise that alot of the information, for the well known cases, like rendlesham forest, are already available to read (see earlier telegragh article, above, for a typical example of this).

tcpalm.com has “Dom Armentano: Intelligent extraterrestrial life: The other inconvenient truth?” (posted 8th january,2008).

stockportexpress.com reports on “Did you spot any out of this world visitors?” (posted 9th january,2008)… again it seems, that they were chinese lanterns, especially as this was reported on new years day (and the descriptions given for them). One witness was so adament that they were ufos that he said

“They were moving across and not up, and if they were lanterns I’d have thought they’d be moving upwards,” he said. “And they were definitely round.” (extract from article). I’m afraid he’s wrong on that one?

Website of the week:

http://www.ufomystic.com/index.php A great website, full of interesting information..

Quote of the week:

The journalists seem to be using the phrase “Little green men” like there is no tommorrow; a term i particularly dislike; i have a feeling it will not go out of fashion any time soon.

This is the new look Update; do you prefer this format?  (although i will be doing a couple more articles, about the origins of some more photos soon, anyway).

Ufo Update

Posted by dandare on January 7, 2008

Hello and welcome to this weeks updates…..

ufos

Remember, not long ago, we had the “Dorito” ufo, well the same local newspaper has another catchy (not) article entitled “Mystery arrowhead UFO spotted” (posted 3rd january 2008 – although for a minute, i thought it had something to do with Alien Archeaology). It mentions

“Householders described the object as looking like an “arrowhead” with three orange lights arranged in the shape of an isosceles triangle”(extract from article); oh well, at least the headlines are becoming quite entertaining…. cannot wait for the next one!

Photobucket

hfxnews has “Lots of speculation, still no explaination for ufo” (posted 4th january 2008); it says that “A video of an object trailing a dark, spiralling plume behind it and plummeting toward Prince Edward Island’s Northumberland Strait remains the focus of intense speculation” (extract from article). The incident took place on 29th december,2007.

stealth

We are back to standard reported articles again; in the eveningleader.co.uk it reports “More people report seeing UFOs flying over county” (posted 4th january,2008). They are all of the orange light variety, and give mention to quite a few different witness accounts. I’ll leave this up to you, as to what you think these are.

ufo online

The eveningleader is back again (7th january 2008) with “Residents line up to confirm UFO sightings“; what makes me smile, about alot of these type of reports, is that they all categorically say, that they are teatotal or did not have a drop to drink at all….

Photobucket

Fox6.com has “Could the UFO in the San Diego skies be sky lanterns?”  (3rd january 2008).

Photobucket

The observer has “The truth is out: X-Files go public” (6th january 2008)…..with no mention of Nick Pope in the whole article… Basically if you are unaware the ufo files held by the MOD will become available to the public (online) starting from spring 2008; but will take 3 years to complete.

Photobucket

In theargus.co.uk “Ufo spotted zooming over downs” (3rd january 2008)…. its back to the mention of “little green men”…… they say it might have been similar to that seen in cornwall (i’m pretty sure they do not mean of the feathered kind, sighted by “the sun newspaper”).  Not much to go on in this post.

Photobucket

Northantset.co.uk claims “Amazing ufo footage” (2nd january 2008), but i wouldn’t hold your breath on this one however.

Also in the news

countywidenews.com has “Will a new year bring new visitors” (3rd january 2008).

We have at Associated Content “UFOs, spirits and mind control” (7th january 2008).

Lastly, “Explore alien worlds at Catawba science centre” (2nd january 2008).

Photobucket

MOD to release UFO files, from Spring 2008 onwards

Posted by dandare on December 23, 2007

uk and part of europe
As was mentioned in my post in late April 2007: (see below…april post in red)

Researcher Dave Clarke’s persistance has paid off, in what looks like the unlocking of British UFO files (declassifiation), hidden away by the MOD….. The files (around 7000) cover over 30 years of data on ufo’s. This will be as significant as the opening up of files from the French government recently…..i can hardly wait…

please see Nick Redfern’s article on this, and also from David Clarke .

This will be a  real breakthrough if it happens as promised; they will add electronic information on ufo’s on their website later this year. Link to defence internet FOI .

I would like to thank all those involved in achieving this…..  :)

ufo rendlesham forest

(Illustration above of Rendlesham forest)

Today, the telegraph has mentioned that the “MOD to open British UFO X-files“; it seems that

“The Ministry of Defence will release a total of 160 files dating back to that time to the National Archives in Kew.

The first files will be made available in Spring 2008 and the process is expected to take three years” (extract from article).

Later on it goes on to say””A Ministry of Defence spokeswoman confirmed the documents would be released from next year. “There has always been a great deal of interest in this subject,” she said”” (extract from article).

This is good news indeed……. i suspect that the spring deadline will not be met, but it seems the files will be coming out.   :)

F-15

More related information can be seen here  and also here (very interesting information***) and confirms this.

Those people, who doggedly requested MOD files/information, must be thanked for their efforts, particularly Gary Anthony, Dave Clark and Joe McGonagle)… of course, these will be those ufo files they admit to having?

Also of interest :

The truth is out there…..under FOI” (article from the MOD site, dated 10th may,2006).

Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP)in the UK Air Defence Region – Result of internal review” (from MOD site; links to other UAP posts on right hand side).

ufo reports 1998 -2006 in the UK” (MOD site)

Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) in the UK Defence Region” (you’ve guessed it, the MOD site; as you will find, alot crossed out/deleted due to section 26).

Thanks to uk-ufo.org for first alerting me to this.

 :)

UPDATE: 14th may….. please see http://dandare.wordpress.com/2008/05/14/mod-releases-8-ufo-files-ready-to-download-info-released-may14th/ for release of files….

DOCUMENTARY + GOVERNMENT RECORDS ON UFOs

To kick us off, there is a handy link to Area 51 (groom lake), from FAS (Federation of American Scientists): http://www.fas.org/irp/overhead/groom.htm  It goes into detail about the imagery available, an overview of the area, handy links to other sites (some now are not working), and images of Area 51 through the years, near the bottom of the article. It seems to have been written in 2000, but still handy for anyone interested in this topic.   Imagery of groom lake can be seen here .

PRUFOS A UK Police Reporting database for ufo sightings

 Useful Astronomy sites

Space Weather Support at  Solar Terrestrial Dispatch . This has links to an aurora monitor. For instance, an hourly activity report here , astro alerts, global flare reports and so on….. useful to know whats up there.

Heavens Above a vital resource if you need to know what is in the sky…ie sateillites, ect. Can give you all sorts of data, from almost any town/city.

Other interesting sites:

Campaign for freedom of information (in the UK)

This is just a guide to some of the most reliable websites on the internet…… i will be updating this list on the  UFO LINKS page, when i have time to do so- there are many more worthy of a mention here, but as i have said they will be added constantly to the UFO LINKS page on this site.

I hope some of these websites, find you wanting to know more  about UFO’s, if you are wondering were to get the information.
