UK UFO sightings July 2008 (updated regularly…now part 1 0f 2)

Posted by dandare on July 14, 2008

i will try and keep this up to date, with all information from the UK. Due to the amount of sightings coming in now, i have had to divide it into a 2 parter).

Please check back from time to time, as this will be updated regularly…

If you see something that i have missed, please contact me (thanks).

I have also put the posts, in date order, the same format as last month … I will try and put a conclusion to the sightings at the end of each month as well …… (although i need to do this from april onwards..oops!).

There has been an explosion of  UK UFO activity, after the MOD released its UFO archive, and this might account for the media clamouring for our attention (how much of it is fact, is frankly anyone’s guess),  and also the public looking at the sky more than normal…. and wanting explanations also.

Some incidents could be UFO balloons (please see:  https://dandare.wordpress.com/2007/05/19/ufo-balloons-what-are-they/ for more details, froma previous article).

However, as i have said before, i am not sure what value they are to any UFO research.

Many of the sightings are sensationalised, with usually alot of information missing. Please keep this in mind as you view these postings from the local and national press.

I’m afraid many also fail to follow up on their initial leads, and many reports just remain forgotten.

The UFO sightings do not seem to be slowing down yet this month….. (although some seem to be getting silly… mistaking the moon for a UFO ).

Wales online “Man breaks silence over North Wales UFO

ONE of Britain’s greatest UFO mysteries deepened last night after a new witness emerged after 34 years.

The Government allegedly covered up the “Welsh Roswell” incident, in the Berwyn mountain range in 1974, after scores of residents reported a massive tremor, strange lights in the sky and “Men in Black” scouring the area.

Claims that aliens crash-landed and their bodies were then transported by the Ministry of Defence to the top-secret research base Porton Down in Wiltshire were dismissed by Whitehall officials.

But suspicions about what really happened were re-ignited in May this year when hundreds of MoD documents about UFO sightings were released, with none containing any details about the Berwyn incident, reviving rumours of a cover-up.

Now, fresh evidence by retired gamekeeper Geraint Edwards, of Llandderfel, Denbighshire, has reopened the debate” (extract from article).

Hi yesterday at night round about midnight, 4 of us were walking up to my friends house, and this man passed, and said “i dont know about you but i have never seen anything like that b4 in my life” (he pointed to the sky) and it was like a glowing orange light, circular, quite large maybe half the size of the moon, it just flew or went passed, it was quite high in the sky, but we were watching it, and it seems to have been travelling quite quick, we watched it until it got right into the distance then it just vanished. I dont know if it was a UFO or some meteor, but i never seen nothing like it, i just thought i would share it with you, because im just curious, thanks Tito….

On July 12th, a Saturday night, in Dublin,Ireland, around midnight roughly, my friend and I saw a large orange glowing ball low down in the sky, it looked like fire but there was no visible smoke. It was moving up into the sky and kept goin for ages, passed us overhead and then it went out slowly but we could still see something faintly going into the distance. Neither of us know what it was, I asked if it could be a comet but it had not tail and it went out so I have no idea what it was but really want to know.

finally! I have found somebody who saw it as well. I was out in the garden in Foxrock that night. It passed over my head, it was an orange glowing ball flying like a plane at low altitude without making any noise. Two more came along only 1 minute later, all going to the Irish sea towards Dublin airport. So, I have taken a picture and sent it to the Irish Times. Close up shows a glowing ball with a structure like a plane inside. They said it was fab but there was no evidence because no house or tree is visible, just pitch black. I called Dublin airport, no reports. No one in Dublin saw them. A week later, Sky News UK said an airline pilot encountered 3 orange balls over the English Channel. I sent the photo to them, too. Did not reply. It was incredible. Maybe new planes from CIA?

At approx 2230 last night there was a bright orange light which looked like it was burning over Crawley, West Sussex, ENGLAND. It was travelling at speed and heading straight towards Gatwick Airport. We watched this descend towards the East of the airport.
Possibly one of these chinese lanterns I have seen on this website, however the subsequent attendance of Sussex Police helicopter and fire engines/police heading that direction, not so sure?

25 July 2008 Stourbridge West Midlands about 10.30 pm.

Object spotted: Luminosity of a small star moving west to east. Prodeeded to carry out 3 sharp changes in dirction, these were instant and sharp (up to 40 degrees I would guess)

I know of no plane satellite or meteor that would behave in this way. The object was seen by both my wife and friend. Who both agreed to the events listed above.

The object continued to the far horizon and was lost to view, took about 3 minutes from horizon to horizon. Lack of any referance points make it hard to guage size speed or altitude.

I would be interested to hear from anyone who either witnessed this or has any idea what we saw.

For the record I have been a keen amateur astronomer since I was a kid and have up to now never seen anything up there that I could not explain. But this one’s really got me stumped!

Don’t normally believe in all this stuff but myself, my mum, sister and brother all saw 5 orange/red balls flying over our house, in Stevenage. My mum was in the garden and called me to listen to this odd electrical humming noise. There was what looked like a red star in the sky and we watched it. It did not move but when another flew across from our right and joined the first, we were very confused. My sister and brother came out to see. Then we were all shocked by a third and fourth. By the time the fourth arrived, the first one had faded out. They all went to the same spot and faded one by one. Two aeroplanes flew past (we are near Luton Airport) and by comparison, these objects were much higher and larger. After they had all disappeared we sat in the garden speculating as to what they were. Too fast to be chinese lanterns. They stopped dead when they reached the same area. No helicopters, planes etc can stop dead after travelling at speed. Very strange. A while later me and brother heard the strange noise again and he spotted one, just past some trees, as it was returning towards us. Yet again it faded completely. Very bizaare. Maybe something military?

    Location: Deerpark, Herodsfoot, Cornwall

Firstly, I don’t believe in alien spacecrafts visiting us from distant planets, I’m a qualified aeronautical engineer and believe that there is a rational explanation for all UFO sighting, however, I am at a loss for an explanation to what I saw on Sunday evening.

I saw a bright white light travelling across the sky from NW to SE directly overhead, initially I thought we must be near an airfield because it looked like a plane with its landing lights on, however it became apparent that it was very high up. It also became apparent that it was travelling very fast because it travelled the full span of the sky in the matter of a few minutes, it also swayed side to side on it’s course as if being flown by a drunk pilot.

I waited for the sound of a jet engine to confirm that it was a RAF plane but it never came, there was just complete silence.

The obvious answer would be a satellite passing over head and possibly atmospheric condition distorting the light would explain the swaying I saw, the only thing that puzzles me was the intensity of the light itself, as bright as a plane coming in to land.

Are there any website that would confirm whether a satellite was indeed passing over head or can anyone offer an explanation?

    Cheers

12.30 am in south wales (lewistown) near bridgend. I saw a orangey dot slowly moving across the sky (the night was very clear with many stars) it was far too high to be a plane and was observed zig zagging before slowly dissapearing upwards and then was gone! I watched it for about 20 seconds I have never been a believer in UFO’s neither am I a fantasist. It wasn’t a plane because they don’t zig zag and it wasn’t a weather balloon the movement was far too controlled.

Sunday 3rd August at 10.30 p.m. we saw one bright orange light over Wordsley, West Midlands. Taken to be a sattelite initially but it seemed too bright and then curved round towards Birmingham. Flashed several times and disappeared. This was followed shortly by the appearance of three lights, in triangular formation following a similar track, again there was a flash and one by one they disappeared. Two more appeared about 10.45 p.m., same lights, same course.
Wierd, no sound, clear night with very few clouds. Aircraft visible at times but totally different. We regularly see aircraft going into and out of B/Ham and spot sattelites. Three of us saw these and have never seen anything like it before. Any ideas!!!!

  17. Anglesey – North Wales, On the 20th August 2008 at 9:10pm I saw a glowing orange ball moving steadily in the sky. It was quite large maybe half the size of the moon and was quite low in the sky. It seemed to have been travelling quite quick, so I watched it until it went out of view into the distance – it seemed as if it just vanished.

I’ve never seen anything like it and have photo on my phone as proof. some say it could have been a fireball but, as another reader has noted, I just thought I would share it with you as I’m curious.

i work grave yard at a group home my shift partner and i were sitting on the front deck on 9-01-08 at about 3:30a.m. when he noticed what appeared to be a very fast moving star fairly far away we watched it stop then go move in all directions and then disappear. He began to tell me he has been seeing one or two of these a night and of course saying he believes them to be not of this earth. well minutes go by and another one was seen going a different direction now i was beginning to become intriqued if not ufo’s they were amazing to watch them zig and zag faster then anything i have ever seen. Well it was fun to watch them and imagine what they could possibly be, We went inside finished some work and got curious again to possibly see another one. We went back outside and began searching the sky for another bright object fluttering around. Not two minutes after we stepped outside (i would not believe what i am about to share except i saw it with my own eyes} from maybe only a 1/4 mile away and very low {maybe 200 feet high} comes the same star looking object we were seeing from afar but now so close and bright we just stood and awed, it came directly over us and at this point maybe 100 feet in the air. it was so bright but there was no sound from itjust nothing i mean even a stealth craft makes some noise but this just appeared to hover then slowly move to the east in no hurry we watched it until it was lost to the tree tops and gone out of our sight. i am sharing this because i am at a loss does the military or anyone else have this kind of craft and if so they would of not been able to duplicated the amazing glow of the craft and if we do have something like this {my shift partner saying of course not} would’nt they turn the lights off. well i just wanted to share this experience and get some feed back. If we do have technology like this wow what do you think. Thanks Don

this is freaky, we all are seeing the same thing. on saterday the 20th of september, 2008, i was walking the dog and in the field out back there was a glowing orange ball. at first i thought it was one of these lantern things, but what happend next, i will never forget. it was like it turned, and then with out warning it, it zipped back and forth. when i say zipped, i mean like a Z shape in the sky, and it was really fast, and then it just went off in a straight line. anyway, freaked out at home, i put the playstation 3 on. i get a message from a mate saying that they have just seen the same thing. then, the next day, mum comes back from work and says that her good freind jane saw exactly the same. thing is, jane lives a good 5 miles from where i live, and in the oppasit direction of the way it flew away. Hi!
I was very relieved to read all the comments, as on Aug 23rd 2008, I too saw a orangey/red ball in the sky, I live in West Huntspill Somerset and we were taking our daughter home to Woolavington, when all of a sudden i saw a hugh orangey/red ball in the sky sort of hovering over woolavington housing estate, everyone at first thought it was a planet, but to me it was too big and too near to be one. as we parked opoutside my daughters house, the ball started to move over us and went off at a very slow speed at first then whizzed away.We reluctantly left our daughter and headed home, when after four mins she phoned and said there were 3 more of the objects above her house, they then sety off in a straight line of equal distance apart. the next day the local radio did a phone in, and we heard that these objects were seen as far away as 15 miles or so from us.The radio did the usual of taking the mick out of everyone who phoned in, and nothing else was said about the sightings afterwards.
I must add that the balls were not making any noise, and they looked nothing like the chinesse lanterns that are on the various web sites.
None of my family are “into” ufo’s, but since my sighting I have done loads of research and find it interesting that lots of people have seen the sdame as us.
My hubby and I both agree that something must be going on for so many people to have had sightings.
I hope my story is of interest to you.

I thank all those who have found the time, to write down their experiences/sightings….
I hope too (when i have some spare time/get my act together) add all sightings to the Recent encounters category above (i’m afraid i am way behind on this as of this moment).
I might try and set up an easier way of putting this all together.
    Once again thanks alot.
    Regards.

    Hi all,

I just wanted to share my experience with you all, it was boxing day 26th December 08 at 705pm and I had just come back from visiting family in sheffield.I parked my car at the back of our house in the car park.Myself and my girlfriend got out of the car and we noticed this bright orange object moving in the sky.Must have been about 2000 feet away but it was moving slowly then fast and left to right. It was not a helicopter or Aeroplane. There was no noise and we are certainly not crazy. We watched it for about 20-30 seconds and then it accelerated at high speed as the light became smaller back into the sky.I live in a place called middleton in manchester.I am certainly not a UFO freak but since seeing this i have decided to look into it and there seems to be so many sightings now! What do the goverment know about all this? Surely this must be taken serious now and the general public need to be made aware of this.I feel that this is definatly something not being taken seriously. What are your thoughts?
    Thanks
    Anthony Floyd

I planned to watch a meteor storm on saddleworth moore about six years ago with a mate of mine, we actually went the night before a accident! The thing is that night was completely clear skys, no light polution, and we saw a white flashing orb shape in the northern skys flying what hust have been litrally coast to coast within seconds. Crazy sounding I know, but we saw what we saw, no aircraft I have ever seen, has ever gone has fast as what I saw.
